Acrylic on Paper, 29.8 x 42 cm. Framed, 32.5 x 42.5 cm.
Created for an exhibition tied to the Sean McCarthy Memorial Festival in Finuge, Co. Kerry – an annual celebration, held every August since 1993, of one of North Kerry’s finest balladeers. Seer was inspired by “In Shame Love, In Shame,” one of McCarthy’s ballads. A pair of hands reaching upward, offering a white peony to a bird in flight – an image that came to me from the ballad’s own quiet sense of longing and release.
You can find the full ballad in Sean McCarthy’s collected works, or through the Sean McCarthy Memorial Festival (finugeweekend.com).
The painting is available for purchase – €250.
